My dear Conscious Soundscapes Community,
I am humbled and overwhelmed with the generous offers of support, and inquiries of how to help so I’m able to continue to serve our community. I never imagined, despite our loss right now, how unnatural & strange it can feel accepting your generosity.
From the makers of some of the instruments I had before the fire who have reached out to inquire about sending some replacements at no cost, wiped account balances clean and sent unsolicited financial assistance as a gift not a loan, I am once more brought to me knees. You all know that I serve from my saucer and not my cup, well, at this time, I don’t have a cup. All of my beloved instrument ‘babies’ were lost in the fire except for a single B5 Hokema Kalimba.
Recently, the devastating forest fires in my home town of Jasper, Alberta Canada have taken away my home and my business. These fires destroyed not only our town, our residence but also my livelihood. As you know my instruments are my babies and were specialized, unique, and rare instruments acquired from around the world over the last decade. These instruments were not just tools of my trade; they were a part of my identity, my babies, a symbol of the cultural richness and diversity of healing power which I aimed to share, along with their joy, with our community.
The loss is overwhelming. Replacing these instruments is not just about the financial burden, which is significant, but also the challenge of finding these rare pieces again. Each instrument has a story, a history, a name, personality and a connection that is irreplaceable.
As I navigate through this difficult time, I am encouraged by your offers to help. Support to help find new babies, (as replacing each of them is impossible), will not only aid in rebuilding my business but also in restoring a vital part of our lives and our community. Every contribution, no matter the size, will make a difference and bring me one step closer to reclaiming my life and passion, and in turn help rebuild the ability to serve once more from my saucer.

If you have other ways of offering support towards these next chapters of Conscious Soundscapes, please be in touch on socials or email and over the coming days & weeks I’ll be in a better position to consider all options & process how to integrate them.
For now, I grieve the loss of my numerous bowl babies, Kabuto who was one of my handpans, all the chimes, tuning forks, steel tongue drums, shruti box, monolini, the twinkling tines of my beloved sansula and kalimbas, musical mushrooms, the ethereal sounds of my gongs and all my other babies, big and small. I will slowly acquire new instrument babies to join my only remaining one from the vast collection, my baby B5.
Your support means the world to me, and I am deeply grateful for all the assistance you can provide. Together, we can rebuild not just a small business, but a community that thrives on creativity, culture, and connection.
Thank you for your kindness and support.
I hope to once more bowl you into the rest of your day.
Humbled with grace & gratitude,
Rachel
The before and after the fire of my home
